PLANNING TOOLS & RESOURCES

Wooden framing of a house under construction at sunset, with trees and snow on the ground.

This tool makes a good first step in your planning process for many personal garages, storage buildings, etc. Print out the two pages of the Preliminary Floorplan. Cut out the contents of page 2 that match what you intend to have in your building. Use the scaled layout on page 1 to place the contents and rearrange as needed until the organization of the building fits your needs. Our standard width and lengths are in bold on the scaled layout.

You can use this tool on your own before you meet with us or let one of our planners help you through the process. Either way, you will be well on your way to an effectively planned project that works for you.

Zoning will play a part in nearly every project. Zoning regulations will influence where you can locate your building, how high it can be, and even what your building is used for. Zoning regulations are typically enforced by your local Township. To find out what your zoning regulations are you may need to contact your local zoning office/inspector.

OUR WARRANTY

In construction, obviously material quality is important, as is qualified people to plan and build your project. We at KBSI believe there is something just as critical. Protection against loss or harm. Insurance is critical because it protects you, the owner. Construction can be dangerous and personal injury accidents are possible. Also damage to construction or other items can occur. You do not need the hassle of being responsible for what your builder does, or does not do. That’s why we provide insurance that covers all facets of our work for you.

Why Builders Risk Insurance Should Never Be Your Problem: What Sets Kirkham Building System, Inc. Apart

When you're building a home, a shop, or a barndominium, your mind should be on floor plans, finishes, and final touches—not on whether you're personally on the hook if something goes wrong during construction. Yet in the world of post-frame and pole barn building, most builders are shifting risk and liability directly onto you, the customer.

At Kirkham Building System, Inc., we take a different approach. We carry full Builders Risk Insurance for every single project we take on. No fine print. No gray areas. And no passing the buck to our clients. That’s just one of the ways we prove we’re serious about standing behind our work—from the ground up.

We proudly carry $2 million in general liability insurance on every project we take on. Why? Because we believe in real accountability starts with real protection.

Why Liability Insurance Matters- for You

In the construction world, unexpected things can happen. A delivery truck damages your driveway. A worker trips and falls. An accident causes damage to a neighboring property. Without the right coverage, these incidents can quickly become your legal and financial responsibility. With Kirkham Building System, you’re covered!

Our liability insurance:

  • Protects you from third-party claims for bodily injury or property damage that occur during the construction process.

  • Covers legal fees, settlements, and medical costs related to covered incidents- so you’re not left footing the bill

  • Reduces your personal risk, because we assume the responsibility for the work we do and the team we bring.

Workers’ Compensation Insurance

How Kirkham Protects You

  • Every crew member we bring is covered by workers’ compensation insurance.

  • We verify coverage for subcontractors, too. We don’t leave any gray areas.

  • We assume the liability for our workers—so you don’t have to.

This protects you from:

  • Unexpected lawsuits or liability claims

  • Construction delays due to legal complications

  • Out-of-pocket medical or injury-related costs

  • Stress, paperwork, and insurance headaches
